Hawkstar stopped, turned, and pinned Sagefeather with her gaze. "Are you sure?" After a moment of silence, she turned her head forward again to continue on their way to their chosen hunting spot.

"Not really, actually." The mottled tom admitted. He mewed quietly, "It just seems like everyone in the Clan has a... a mate, and I don't." Sagefeather stared at his paws and felt his ears burning with embarrassment. (OOC;; Just in case you didn't know, Hawk, you can now have two high positions.)

OOC;; I know. I'm making a medicine cat in RiverClan, Silvershade. I was just debating whether to do it or not. BIC;;
Hawkstar remained facing forward. She didn't want Sagefeather to notice that she was working hard to suppress a smile at his embarrassment. She almost never got to see him like this. "Sometimes it takes a while to find the right cat. You have to take the time to get to know them." She herself knew all of the cats in her Clan, but they weren't right for her, or so she thought. She didn't really have time for a mate and kits...but now that Sagefeather had brought it up, she remembered a time when she had wished for a family. OOC;; Are you attempting to ask me something with that last post?

(OOC;; Not me, Sagefeather! ) Sagefeather gave a quick glance up, to see Hawkstar fighting a smile. He suddenly seemed very occupied in cleaning the rabbit from his muzzle.

(OOC;; If Sagefeather's asking what I think he's asking, then Hawkstar says yes!) Hawkstar twitched her ears before continuing, "But then there're always the rare occasions where the cat you're looking for is right under your nose."

(OOC;; Hehe, he'll be happy.) Sagefeather's heart lurched, and he stood up straight. "Wh-what do you mean?" he stammered.

{Oh, yay! Happy is good.} Hawkstar flicked her tailtip, but was silent. "That's the question, isn't it?" she asked in a peculiar tone, tipping her head to the side as if she herself didn't know the answer.

Sagefeather blinked. "Please explain what you mean, Hawkstar..." The mottled tom wondered if his leader had actually lost her mind. He blinked.

"I guess what I mean is...you can find love anywhere. Being willing to recognize it is another thing. Pursuing it is a whole other thing entirely. You can't ever really know something for sure until you ask." Hawkstar frowned slightly, fixing Sagefeather with that gaze again, wondering.

Sagefeather met his leader's gaze. "I believe I've found love." He mewed. His eyes turned mischevious, and he tackled Hawkstar playfully. "And I believe to pursue it."

Hawkstar grinned as she landed with an 'oof.' "If you were any other cat, I wouldn't go so easy!" She exclaimed as she maneuvered into a roll, pinning Sagefeather beneath her.

Sagefeather purred and batted her off. Suddenly he froze like a rabbit scenting a warrior, ears pricked and every muscle tensed. "Dogs..." He choked out. Four of them, untied from Twolegs, big and hungry, and on their scent. Sagefeather wasn't about to let Hawkstar get hurt. "Get in here!" he hissed, pushing her into a part of the fence that had worn away. Even though he knew she would be annoyed at him for treating her like a kit later, Sagefeather pushed her into the barn, even managing to save the two rabbits.
The dogs appeared, growling and salivating, wanting to get the cats more than anything. They weren't going to give up. Sagefeather realized something with a jolt: they could be here for awhile, but if they tried to make a run for the camp, they would either find the dog's cruel jaws around their necks or lead them straight to the camp. They was not in a good situation right now.

Hawkstar's eyes grew large as she caught the dogs' scent, a second later than Sagefeather. Stupid noble instincts, she thought. I'll get him later for it.
Upon seeing all four dogs, she made a quick command decision and dragged Sagefeather into the barn after her. "Quick, climb up to the top!" she hissed in his ear, indicating the loft above their heads. "They'll never be able to climb up after us!" Dogs were stupid, and would never make it up the ladder. They could wait them out for as long as they needed to up there.

Sagefeather leapt up into the rafters. The dogs burst in just a second later. They padded around, sniffing and whining, and ran out. Sagefeather didn't dare jump down. "They're still out there!" He hissed in annoyance.

Hawkstar nodded. "They'll try to find us for a while, but they'll give up." She sighed. "We may be up here for a while. I'd like to apologize for this...I'm the one who kept you out there. You could have been well away by the time they arrived, and it's my fault you're not, and it's my fault you're in danger. I'm sorry," she finished lamely.

Sagefeather's eyes flamed with exasperation. "Hawkstar, you are so dense sometimes. The only way this could be your fault is if you summoned those dogs here. And I think I'm right when I say you didn't." He rolled his amber eyes and stared down at the entrance. "At least we have something to eat," he mewed in a softer tone, nodding at the rabbit.

Hawkstar rolled her eyes. "Whatever you say, O Lord Sagefeather," she grumbled. "Eat if you're hungry. I'm fine," she said, settling on a pile of hay with her chin resting on her front paws.

"No, I'm fine." Sagefeather replied. He leapt onto a beam high up and surveyed the entrance. Sniffing carefully, his eyes gleamed and he turned around to Hawkstar. "They're gone; no scents, nothing." He leapt down, and circled around a few times. "See?" He grinned. "My throat is still intact."

Hawkstar frowned slightly. She didn't like him putting himself in danger like that. "Wait a moment," she cautioned. There were openings up where she was, in the loft. Hay threatened to spill out at any moment. As she peeked out of each one, she found only footprints of dogs. Sagefeather was right; they were gone. "I don't see them outside, either," she explained as she sprang down from the loft.

Sagefeather nodded. "Let's go back... we better warn the camp, and tell warriors and apprentices to be careful. Should we say, no cat out by themselves?" He lost himself in thought, wondering what to do.
